Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 4 cups fresh blackberries or frozen, thawed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adjust based on sweetness of blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice freshly squeezed
Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine blackberries, sugar, flour, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the berries and set aside.
Make the Topping
  1. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
Assemble and Bake
  1. Pour the blackberry mixture into a greased baking dish. Spoon the topping over the berries evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
Serve
  1. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
