Ingredients
  

Pork
  • 3 pounds pork shoulder cut into large chunks
Spices
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
Liquids
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 0.5 cup lime juice
  • 1 onion chopped for flavor
  • 4 cloves garlic minced

Method
 

Prepare the Pork
  1. In a large bowl, combine the cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder pieces.
Cook in Crockpot
  1. Place the seasoned pork in the crockpot. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, orange juice, and lime juice. Stir to combine.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded.
Shred and Serve
  1. Once cooked, remove the pork from the crockpot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the crockpot and mix it with the juices.
  2. Serve the carnitas in tacos, burritos, or over rice, garnished with fresh cilantro and lime wedges.

Notes

For extra crispy carnitas, broil the shredded pork in the oven for a few minutes after cooking.
