Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the Russet potatoes.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
  4. Add the flour to the butter and garlic, stirring to form a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream, cooking until the sauce thickens.
  6. Stir in the sharp cheddar cheese and Gruyère cheese until melted.
  7. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, sprinkling with salt and pepper.
  8. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  9. Add the remaining potatoes, season again with salt and pepper, and pour the rest of the cheese sauce on top.
  10. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the top layer for crunch.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives before serving.
