Masala Dosa

A popular South Indian breakfast dish made from fermented rice and lentil batter, filled with spiced potato filling.

Ingredients
  

Dosa Batter
  • 2 cups Rice Soaked for 4-6 hours
  • 1 cup Urad dal (black gram) Soaked for 4-6 hours
  • 1 cup Water For blending
  • 1 tsp Salt
Potato Filling
  • 4 medium Potatoes Boiled and mashed
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies Green chilies Finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Grated
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves Chopped
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
For Cooking
  • 2 tbsp Oil For frying dosas

Method
 

Prepare Dosa Batter
  1. Drain the soaked rice and urad dal. Blend them together with water until smooth.
  2. Transfer the batter to a bowl, add salt, and let it ferment for 8-12 hours.
Prepare Potato Filling
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  3. Add boiled and mashed potatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Stir in chopped coriander leaves and remove from heat.
Cook Dosa
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet and grease it with oil.
  2. Pour a ladleful of batter and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
  3. Drizzle oil around the edges and cook until the bottom is golden brown.
  4. Place a portion of potato filling in the center, fold the dosa, and serve hot.

Notes
