Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar divided
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar for sprinkling on top

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine sliced strawberries, 3/4 cup of sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss to coat the strawberries evenly.
  2. Pour the strawberry mixture into a greased baking dish.
Make the Topping
  1. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in melted butter and milk until just combined.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the strawberry filling. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar on top.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
